UNESCO Chair for World Heritage Urban and Cultural Landscapes
The UNESCO Chair in World Cultural and Urban Landscapes is part of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Program and was established from 2012 until 2016 at the Institute for Urban and Regional Planning at RWTH Aachen University.
The UNESCO Chair focused on scientific consulting and support for the Cultural and Urban Landscapes accepted to the World Heritage List of UNESCO. This required close cooperation with the German Commission for UNESCO, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre ,as well as with the advisory bodies ICOMOS, ICCROM and IUCN.
The UNESCO Chair's responsibilities included practical advising, fundamental and applied research, as well as education. With these projects the Chair aimed to contribute to a sustainable and responsible preservation and development of World Cultural and Urban Landscapes facing high pressure to change.
